Money Project 2, Phase 1: Freelance Writing

When it comes to making money online, you won’t find a bigger proponent than myself. The absolute flexibility of the idea, being able to work everywhere at any given point in time, is an aspect I’m sure many of my readers find alluring. The trouble is of course starting points. I want to bring in some online income, but how do I go about doing that? I don’t have a definite answer for you, there are so many ways spanning so many fields that I couldn’t hope to encompass them all. I already crossed blogging off the list, as it’s been covered and the bottom line is not a lot of people ant to put the time and energy into a blog, especially when the payout is so unreliable.

Instead of give you a blueprint, the best I can hope to do is offer my experiences. I can show you how I’ve made strides to build my own streams of income online. My first project thus far has been widely successful, and the survey checks now roll in each month with some regularity. These of course will be covered by my occasional income updates.

So it is that we come to my next project: Freelance Writing. Like anything else, it is going to take some good old elbow grease and some of my mediocre writing skills! I selected to 2 sources of income for this project. One is a free resource that anyone can utilize, the other is a freelance writing gig that I picked up through the job board over at problogger. If you are looking to pull in some extra income through writing, that would be your best bet to start!

So here’s what I have:

1. Helium – I picked out Helium because it is one of the better known collaborations of freelance writing. They offer a share of the revenue that your articles bring in, as wella s various project offered by companies interested in the talent Helium writers provide. For this particular project, I decided to write a few articles per week on popular items like finance and exercise and see how that got me. It’s important to note that quality is still important, as your writing will be rated by your readers. Highest ratings bring in the most revenue.

2. Nesteggr – I applied for and got a freelance writing gig at Nesteggr covering various topics of finance, retirement, and savings. I really love the layout and mini-blog style and so far this has been a great addition. If you have time, be sure to check the site out.

Stay tuned next week for a status and breakdown of the income.
