As soon as I got my first office job, I began to wonder why more employees didn’t work remotely. In many cases the transition wouldn’t really be that difficult. You’d just need the proper software, a designated work computer, and maybe a work phone. I’m oversimplifying of course, but what I found is that most companies didn’t let their employees work from home because they were afraid that everyone would want to do it, not because it wasn’t feasible.

As I write this, I’m cruising down I-95 South heading to North Carolina for the week. Thanks to my wife’s Palm Pre Plus I have a fairly solid 3G connection to work from, and I have to say its awesome. I’m not much of a gadget geek, but being able to pop open my laptop from almost anywhere and have everything at my fingertips is great.

With that said, I’m not sure how many of the bloggers I see working from laptops under a palm tree do it. The glare is pretty horrendous when the sun is angled the wrong way!

So yes, I’m still here! It’s been a long time, certainly longer than I’ve ever taken off from the bog, but I promise it’s been for good reason. Here’s the thing, I’ve gotten a new full time job, but also maintained a good portion of my freelance work on the side. Combine that with still working on my Adsense site portfolio (which had a stellar year!) and the fact that I still like to have fun, and you can see the reason for my absence, I hope.

Readers tend to be unforgiving when it comes to this kind of stuff, but for those of you sticking around, I’ll be the first to say thanks! Now I can’t promise that I’ll be back to post everyday from now and forever, but we’re (hopefully) a new era here.

Given the new stream of income from my main job, I’m going to be rapidly destroying all of my remaining debt and investing it into other income producing cash machines like dividend paying stocks (not you Bank of America) and others. So, feel free to follow along.

In unprecedented economic hardship, many consumers are turning to short term personal loans to finance necessities or car loans to get the financing they need. Some can even get a bad credit car loan at a time where lending for those with bad credit is hard to come by. It’s important to understand the dangers of such loans, however, and only employ them when all other options are exhausted.

Most importantly, it’s crucial to know that the interest rates on these loans are typically quite high. Be sure to read over your loan agreement very carefully. Understand beforehand how long it will take you pay back and what you’ll end up paying in interest along the way.

Ask anyone what one of their biggest costs will be in retirement, and health care costs almost always come to mind. That’s no surprise either, considering the fact that costs for insurance and health care have been soaring in past years and thus far have shown no signs of abating anytime soon. The cost for assisted living, for example, is about $32,000 a year, the equivalent of one person’s salary in many cases.

So with that in mind, some individuals buy long term care insurance in an effort to protect their assets down the road. Many consumers begin looking for such policies earlier on in their fifties when premiums are lower, and for good reason. A fifty-year old may pay $2,000 for a long term care policy, but a seventy year-old could pay $8,000 and up.

Whether considering a policy for yourself or a loved one, do proper research and get quotes from the 5 or 6 big players out there that offer long term care coverage.

There are an innumerable number of sites out there regarding debt consolidation, but sometimes its best (and easiest!) to go to a reputable site with a good amount of information and tools at your disposal.

Heading over to debtconsolidation.com, there’s a good amount of information and a few handy calculators., separated into different “wizards.” There’s a debt forgiveness wizard, lower monthly payment wizard, etc. What these allow you to do is enter your current debt information and it’ll show you what (if anything) you’ll save by consolidating.

As always, be sure to do your own due diligence and research before signing up for any service!
