Retiring at 40.

So this is a little dated, but wow, I do envy this family.

Read the article here.

I’d always considered the military an option in case other things didn’t pan out. If I happened to not particularly enjoy college, couldn’t find a career path that fit me, and so on, I figured I could always join the military, live well, support my country, and (assuming my survival) retire early with a fat pension.

Fortunately (or unfortunately?) this never panned out, as I happen to like working in Financial Services quite a bit, and my career here is likely to last some time. That said, it’s always important to read stories like this just to know it’s possible. I talk about retiring early all the time. I talk about a flexible schedule, working for myself, or telecommuting to feed my lust for travel. People will tell you no, they’ll meet you with immediate skepticism, but you can’t let that divert you from your goals.

It’s important to start out small, though, don’t just keep your head in the sky and never implement a plan to get you where you want to be. Find out the path you need to take to get to your end goal. When I first hit 30$ a month in alternate income I was feeling good, and it was that much easier to set my sights on an even higher goal, and it was that much more attainable. There will of course be some sacrifice along the way, but the key is to enjoy yourself regardless, no matter where life takes you.
