Money Project Monday: Building Sites for Fun and Profit

In my quest for building up alternate income streams I’ve read quite a bit about the idea of building up sites, garnering traffic to them, and then letting the search engine traffic/ad revenue do it’s thing while you take the check in each month. This isn’t meant to sound quick or easy, it isn’t.

Instead it’s a lot of work up front which ends (hopefully) in an income stream you can take to the bank each month. You strive to build a site that will provide the necessary information to users, who will hopefully get the info they need, click an ad, and most likely never be seen again. There are a number of those out there who write about this in their blogs and chronicle their progess. My favorite 2 are listed below.

1. Nerdy Nomad

2. Dosh Dosh

While I’m fairly skilled in the coding and production of sites, I don’t have much flare for design. As such I’ve teamed up with my older brother, who works in the industry and has a bit more experience in the proper design of a site. For ideas I’ve been doing a lot of looking into search trends and niches that a site could fill. A good example of this is a site run by a friend of ours, who has a PT cruiser. He started up PTcruiserlinks.com as an enthusiast site for the car (it’s listed 5th on a Google search for “PT Cruiser”), and now brings in a significant amount of income for the site.  Something like that is what we’re looking to build, and I’ll be sure to update you as we go along.
